Roof access platforms

SP2I specialises in design and manufacture of all-inclusive platforms, i.e. framework, guard rails, ladders, stairways and gap fillers. Whether the products are manufactured using pre-existing plans and projects or if they are the result of a new design, the quality of the product meets the relevant industry norms and standards.

Our knowledge of the rail industry environment allows us to overcome the constraints regarding rolling stock such as gauge widths, the height of work at roof level, train cameras…

Furthermore, we provide efficient solutions for safe access to trains. We can integrate our own system of “gap fillers” into the platforms, bridging the gap between the fixed platform and trains of different sizes to prevent maintenance operators - and also their tools - from falling.

The moving floor allows the gap between the theoretical gauges of the different rolling stock and the real size of the immobile train that needs to be worked on to be filled. It allows the gap between the roof access platforms and the different sizes of train to be filled. When in the operation position, this device prevents both people and tools from falling (in compliance with the French Labour Code).

The platform drawers are operated by pneumatic cylinders and the air pressure is constantly regulated in order to ensure that the drawer stops moving when it bumps into an obstacle or reaches the bodywork of a train.

The gap fillers allow:

  • In the retracted position: trains to be manoeuvred into or out of the workshop. Position sensors validate the position.
  • In the extended position: the space between the platform and the train to be filled by the platform extending to and resting against the bodywork of the rolling stock, allowing operators working on the roof to circulate safely. The gap fillers are equipped with pressure switches that can detect when the drawer is in contact with the train.
